Suncoast : Home Tour : Girona Grace

Turkish travertine flooring, rustic beamed ceilings, and a transitional design with warm brown wood tones and contemporary upholstery provide a modern, classic backdrop in the new Girona model at The Founders Club.

Built by London Bay Homes – named America’s Best Builder in 2008 by Builder Magazine – the model offers homeowners a glimpse of the casual yet luxurious lifestyle in The Founders Club, recently named Best Overall Community by the Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association.

Located within The Founders Club’s natural landscape of 700 acres of majestic stands of moss-draped live oaks, palms and pines, and expansive conservation areas, the Girona evokes a feeling of relaxation enhanced by the home’s views of golf, lake and nature preserves.

From the moment you step inside the fully furnished Girona, you’ll know you’re home. Immediately you notice the builder’s impeccable attention to detail, the tasteful finishes carefully selected by Romanza Interior Design, and the emphasis on outdoor living with a full summer kitchen, custom pool, and spa.

Offering 3,526 square feet of interior space with three bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths, the single-family Girona’s open floor plan immediately resonates with buyers who enjoy the combined gathering and entertaining areas of the great room, dining room, kitchen and breakfast nook.

“Its valuable square footage offers ample space for lounging, casual and formal dining, outdoor grilling, swimming and sunning,” states Roland Nairnsey, Director of Sales for London Bay Homes.

The Girona’s spaciousness is enhanced by 12-foot ceilings in the main living areas and 10-foot sliding glass walls in the great room and breakfast nook that open to the ample outdoor living spaces.

Featuring interiors by Michael Scott of Romanza Interior Design, the Girona showcases neutral background finishes and a color palette of sand, charcoal and walnut accented with green and burnt orange in select rooms. “The interior design of the Girona matches the home itself – elegant and sophisticated, yet very comfortable and livable,” adds Scott.

The great room features an eclectic mix of transitional furniture pieces in walnut wood tones and contemporary upholstery with medium-toned fabrics and leathers. A natural sisal area rug anchors the main seating area, and floral draperies throughout echo the room’s sand, rust, green and yellow hues. Wood beams accent the ceiling.

“The Girona design captures the imagination from the moment of entry,” says Mark Wilson, President and CEO of London Bay Homes. “The home transports you to another place reminiscent of a French countryside with its vibrant colors, charming details, warm textures and natural ambience.”

“I’ve incorporated hand-planed wood beams and rustic travertine floors like those found in traditional farmhouses,” describes designer Scott. “I’ve also infused the home with a Florida feel with tropical furnishings, warm lighting, and fixtures and furniture pieces covered in woven fabrics with great texture.”

Additional interior finishes include wrought iron repeated in the ornate design of the entry door, the chandelier in the breakfast nook and light fixtures in the den. The den also features a bold rug with a striped animal print, a burnt orange sectional for late-night TV viewing, and a walnut writing/computer desk.

The kitchen offers a Sub-Zero beverage center and refrigerator, a 48-inch stainless steel Wolf range, and a walk-in pantry. The room has Carrara granite countertops with a unique leather finish, dark-toned wood cabinetry, and a handmade tile backsplash above the range. A highlight is the expansive island featuring a farmhouse sink set in a cream-hued, customized marble counter.

The master bedroom is a luxuriously appointed hideaway with floor-to-ceiling French doors and his-and-her custom walk-in closets. The space provides ample room and holds a four-poster dark wood bed and a pair of comfortable chairs decorated with striped pillows that pop against the room’s wood and natural tones. A textured rug in a sandy hue completes the warm look of the master suite.

The English Victoria + Albert volcanic stone and resin tub, set in a windowed alcove, is the focal point of the master bath, which offers views of the outdoors. His-and-her light wood stained vanities with polished Sicilian mocha-hued limestone tops and a travertine-clad glass enclosed shower add to the room’s comfort and functionality.

A pool and spa set in a travertine paver pool deck are among the Girona’s spectacular outdoor amenities. The pool is adjacent to a series of arched doorways that delineate the outdoor living and dining area. The space features celadon-hued outdoor furnishings and a wooden ceiling fan. The home’s BuzzOff misting system provides natural protection against insects, allowing guests to enjoy the outdoor space year-round, day or night.

“The outdoor area is one of the special features of this home,” says Scott. “It offers plenty of space for entertaining, a summer kitchen, a separate raised spa, and fire and water features clad in cobalt mosaic tiles. Plus, there’s additional seating beyond the pool covered by an arbor that’s flanked with palm trees.”

“The setting is truly awe-inspiring,” describes Nairnsey. “It boasts all the tropical flora and fauna of Florida in a luxury setting.” The model, priced at $1,968,600, represents one of London Bay’s 18-plus available floor plans in the community. Furnished models are open daily at The Founders Club, which offers home and homesite packages from the $750,000s to more than $5 million.
