Designing a more than 13,000-square-foot forever home from the ground up over a three-year period was a true pleasure for Wright Interior Group. After working with the homeowners on their previous home, Creative Principal Nan Wright and Associate Creative Director Caitlin Heath were able to satisfy the husband’s love for geometric details and the wife’s appreciation for softer, organic motifs, all while creating a unified design showcasing a classic style with coastal accents.
Wright and Heath were involved in the design, specifying exquisite material selections from the start of the project. “We really wanted to make every area special,” says Heath. From the exterior’s custom mahogany entry door by New Erra Doors, to the interior’s Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in their Giuseppina finish, every space fascinates.
“We use 3D renderings to illustrate the unique features we design,” explains Wright, “So, even in the planning stages, our clients can see a realistic photo of what each space will look like once it is completed.”
One particularly important detail to the homeowners: ensure the property’s breathtaking views would be enjoyed from all areas of the home. “The Bay appears to come right up into the foyer,” explains Project Manager Phil McHenry of Architectural Land Design, who worked with the homeowners and design team to bring everyone’s landscaping and outdoor living ideas to life.
The home’s exterior incorporates a range of design elements. “They wanted something a little different, not something ultra-modern,” explains McHenry, describing the home’s grand-yet-sleek façade. To the contrary, he says the outdoor living area feels “more playful and fun.”
One of Port Royal’s well-known builders, Andy Bringardener, built the opulent waterfront estate.
“This project is one that before you even start with a shovel in the ground, you just know the finished product is going to be spectacular,” says Bringardner, who attributes this project’s success to the team of professionals involved, stating they were, “a dream team.”
Another vital member of the “dream team” is architect Jonathan Kukk. “We worked really closely with Jon from the very beginning,” says Wright. “It was a really creative collaboration. He brought some ideas, we brought some ideas, and we were able to meld everything and make it all work.”
Every space was carefully considered to ensure each room was unique yet purposeful for the homeowners’ lifestyle, while cohesive to the overall aesthetic. “Our goal is to achieve optimal results for the client and exceed their expectations,” says Bringardner.
Wright agrees, “The whole team worked really well together to make all of the home’s unique features come to life.” And when this group of professionals refers to “the team”, they are including their incredible clients.
“When you have a client that is easy-going, enjoys all the details and special finishes you select,” reflects Wright. “It is simply the best combo,” Heath concludes.
*Feature cover image: This stunning waterfront home is artistic and inspired by the homeowners’ love for geometric details and organic motifs. Architectural Land Design incorporated lush, tropical landscaping with contemporary water features to bridge the boundaries between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. Wright Interior Group and architect Jonathan Kukk designed this 9,778-square-foot under air Port Royal estate home constructed by builder Andy Bringardener, for their clients to enjoy year-round Florida living. The home’s façade, walkway, and entry columns are finished in natural stone — Mocha Créme and Ocean Reef -— and the columns are inset with bronze metal detail, all from DeMarco Tile.
A dining table with linen laminated glass, hammered metal base, and table top banding is quite compelling. The dining room’s architectural lighting and chandeliers from Lighting First puncture through the circular detail of the suspended beams to illuminate the aqua Venetian plaster barrel ceiling above. The soffit design matches the iridescent glass tile inlay set into the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in their Giuseppina finish.
20-foot sheer drapery panels in the parlor frame the view through the sliders and transom windows by Anderson Windows & Doors from Design Studio by Raymond, providing just the right preview of the vast outdoor living area and what lies beyond. Chenille crescent-shaped sofas from International Design Source welcome visitors to sit and experience this one-of-a-kind entry space where the interior meets the pool and water view.
Every feature in this expansive kitchen was designed to accommodate the ease and pleasure of its function, as well as the comfort and enjoyment of its form. The custom-made millwork is a combination of painted and stained finishes with inset stainless steel trim accents on the drawers. Commissioned from a St. Petersburg, Florida glass artist, a hurricane-eye inspired, three-fourths inch glass backsplash and peninsula inlay design was created with sand and was pressure-molded in a kiln to melt the glass into the sand design, which creates a one-of-a-kind artistic statement. “I went to a studio in Tampa and worked with him to come up with the design,” says Wright.
The wine room holds over 1500 bottles cradled in maple and polished steel racks. Centered in the middle of the room is a floor inlay featuring round tile, which looks like cross cut cork. Polished porcelain tile in an elongated hexagon shape wraps the entire barrel ceiling.
The inside bar plays a pivotal role for the home’s design and function. “The stone was the inspiration for the home’s color scheme,” says Wright. The columns and countertops are fabricated from an exotic natural stone, which is vein-matched in a zigzag design on both the vertical columns and the horizontal countertop surface. It provides the perfect space for family and friends to relax and hang out, and it is easily accessible from the great room, kitchen, and dining room.
In the master bathroom, a barrel-vaulted ceiling with a LusterStone faux finish creates an iridescent reflective appearance from below. Dual multi-arm glass chandeliers from Lighting First are perched above the large oval volcanic stone tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. The accent wall behind the tub boasts a classic mini-Carrara marble mosiac in a repeating geometric design that creates an unforgettable impression. A hand-blown art glass chandelier is also a show-stopper.
Her closet takes your breath away, displaying dozens of collectible beaded handbags and designer shoes, completely customized to suit her needs. A Klismos acrylic chair with a faux sheepskin seat is the room’s perfect accessory.
In the master bedroom, a shallow ceiling detail includes glowing LED accent lighting hidden above the suspended circular design. The Lusterstone ceiling faux finish casts a calming glow. The serene palette of blues, grays, and whites found on the walls, area rug, sheer window treatments, and bedding give the room a soothing quality. The bed is the focal point of this suite with its 9-foot custom-built upholstered headboard and stained wood bed surround, sourced through International Design Source.
From under cover or al fresco dining to cocktails around the fire pit, this resort-like space offers a supreme outdoor living experience. The deck and lanai columns are covered in the same natural stone in Mocha Créme from DeMarco Tile. The stunning waterfront view is complimented by a multilevel pool with several fire and water features desgined by Architectural Land Design. Landscape architect Christian Andrea describes its “curvilinear” style as one that offers a softer effect, yet still incorporates linear architectural aspects. Three spherical water orbs — Aqualens by Allison Armour — appear to be floating over the upper deck’s wading pool. Thoughtfully positioned, the orbs are visible from several points of the home.
