Southern Charm

Using West Indies influences as inspiration, the front exterior features symmetrical roof lines and cypress corbels. Board and batten siding accentuates the smooth stucco walls on the second floor. Caribbean-style railings and wood-paneled garage doors contribute to a tropical aesthetic. Custom pavers and artificial turf in a diamond pattern create interest. Carefully-placed Bevolo gas lanterns infuse a soft southern charm, establishing a warm “welcome home” to the residents and guests.

It’s nearly impossible to resist the charisma of this 5,800-square-foot residence in The Moorings neighborhood of Naples. Welcoming woods used in abundance, an endless flood of mood-enhancing natural light, tactile fabrics you just want to run your hand over—all of these instill a comfort and coziness not often found in a home this spacious. Shades of creamy alabaster, blues that range from misty to inky, pale platinum, and a pop of periwinkle comprise the amenable palette. “The colorways we chose dance around the overall aesthetic of the house, bringing cheer,” says interior designer Rebekah Errett-Pikosky of Clive Daniel Home who, together with her design partner Charlie Hansen, turned a house into a home for a family with three children.

Dynamic elements balanced with softer materials enliven the great room. Legno Bastone European white oak flooring runs up the wall for added accent. The ceiling is detailed with semi-gloss poplar beams applied over tongue-and-groove. A custom-built Clive Daniel Home console is finished in distressed tea-stained black. Theodore Alexander swivel chairs are upholstered in patterned platinum. The bold Corbett chandelier is counterbalanced by the striped draperies.

The home’s open concept called for a seamless transition into the kitchen. Two islands are finished in dark Ruffino Cabinetry Oyster on maple and topped with rich marble from Classic Stone Marble & Granite. Encore Zephyr, Ash, Alabaster tile in a chevron pattern creates movement. SubZero refrigeration, a 60-inch dual fuel Wolf range and convection steam oven are from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Velour counter stools are by Jessica Charles.

A yearn for comfort at the forefront influenced the decision to construct an upholstered banquette that runs the length of the Clive Daniel Home Originals dining table. Soft gray tweed chairs are from Jessica Charles. Mock roman shades in Romo Fabric’s Meddon Graphite adorn the windows.

Livable luxury is what the clients hoped to attain, and the designers delivered by blending softer, more traditional lines with angular pieces. “Being from the south, the homeowners’ influence allowed us to give attention to all the elements that make a house feel romantic and layered,” contributes Hansen.

In every room, an upward gaze treats the eye to the thoughtful and innovative ceiling details for which luxury custom home builder Knauf-Koenig Group is recognized. “Each room was designed as its own entity which allowed no two ceilings to be the same,” comments Knauf-Koenig’s Nick Radick. With details overhead, the craftsmanship throughout is signature Knauf-Koenig—masterfully precise and skillfully executed.

Knauf-Koenig’s aptitude to let their skills shine in this project is due in part to the vision of architect John Cooney, partner at Stofft Cooney Architecture. “Wonderful ceiling details and millwork packages are throughout every room. The intricate beams, tongue-and-groove ceilings, and detailed wainscoting really define this house,” says Cooney, who intended, and achieved, an equal amount of detail both inside and out. Significant consideration was given to the clients’ goal of creating a home that would grow with them.

The master bedroom is appointed with many dreamy features, including a dove silk draped canopy, a John Richards chandelier dripping with crystal, Habitat Textile’s Piccolo Luci applied on the headboard wall, and a plush Emerson Bentley Payton bench swathed in velvety slate gray, positioned at the foot of the bed. Linens boasting a Signoria coverlet and duvet, and Scalamandre shams, dress the bed in finery. Elegant and understated, the custom nightstands are from Clive Daniel Home Originals.

The master bath is a symmetrical showplace, with matched Ruffino cabinetry installed on either side, custom-finished in slate on rift-cut white oak. Both units are subtly lit by Visual Comfort sconces. Clive Daniel Home Originals’ bamboo silk rugs in Crystal decorate the floor, while the freestanding Victoria and Albert Warndon tub serves as the room’s centerpiece. The spacious walk-in shower is treated with Encore Ceramic’s Pointed Oval pattern, which is custom-colored in earthy tones.

The designers, who have worked with this client in the past, considered it a “passion project” which enabled them to be creative and imbue the home with character. Patterned draperies, wood-lined walls, relaxed furnishings, and layer upon layer of detail amount to a finished, stylized yet lived-in look. “Charmed, I’m sure.”

The residence includes a well-appointed home theater crafted and installed by Knauf-Koenig. Body-hugging luxurious navy leather recliners are from Hancock & Moore. A total surround of custom-milled poplar, with decorative insets using textiles from fabric houses Zimmer + Rohde and Kravet, beget an insulated, upscale feel. The geometric sconces are from Fine Art Lamps.

A custom Chippendale railing crafted and installed by Florida Stairworks is modified from its original design with tighter spacing for a sturdier balustrade and a higher level of safety for children and pets. Legno Bastone Dolce Vita Tropea wood lines the floors of the stairwell and landing. Phillip Jeffries’ Mystic Weave in Wondrous White covers the walls, a backdrop for the branchlike art from Phillips Collection. Three Currey & Company Shikari Blanc chandeliers cascade downward with hundreds of strands of clear crystal beads.

“This outdoor living area rivals any South Beach resort,” declares Radick most accurately. A custom fire ribbon feature extends the width of the pool, while three flowing waterfalls ramp up the energy. On one side, a set of sling chaise lounges from Castelle promotes relaxation, and on the other, an exquisite gazebo draped with Sunbrella fabric and accented with applied tape engenders private moments in the shade. Lunada Bay Tile in Tozen Martini Argon serves to accentuate the waterline.

Delightfully neutral and textured, the lanai flooring starkly contrasts the rich, dark wood ceiling. The fireplace wall is highlighted by slim, multi-toned gray stone tiles. A coordinating Lane Venture sectional and swivel chair are upholstered in the palest taupe.
