Model Behavior

One of several models by Kolter Homes in Artistry Sarasota, a new resort-style single-family home community, the Chagall offers four bedrooms plus a den and five baths in its 3,623 square feet of living area. The two-story home has everything you’d expect, and something you might not. In the Chagall, a spacious club room replaces the formal living room. True to the club room concept, this open, casual living area includes a full bar at one end. The club room is a favorite feature of Kolter Homes’ vice president of marketing John Manrique, “The location as you walk in immediately sets a tone, a welcoming feeling for this home as a great place for family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company.”

“The open design with flexibility of space is very current,” continues Manrique. “At the same time, the design of the master suite with its entry alcove and the spacious covered lanai are timeless features. The lanai is a classic, especially since nearly all of our homesites at Artistry Sarasota have water views.”

Naming the home’s design “Contemporary Mediterranean,” Manrique says the architectural style has been well-received by Sarasota. “Given the option of a fifth bedroom, this home appeals to both empty-nesters and families with tweens and teens,” explains Manrique.

Lead designer Chris Popovich and design associate Mariane Bliss completed the home’s award-winning design. The Chagall earned a silver Aurora Award from the 2017 Southeast Building Conference, one of two regional trade shows recognized by and affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

The award-winning Chagall model offers spacious living and energy efficiency. Steel construction and reinforced concrete is architecturally accented by 8-foot fiberglass doors for extended weather-resistant life and garage door by D & D Garage Doors. Energy-efficient double-pane, insulated, low-emissivity windows and sliding glass doors provide improved energy performance, comfort, noise reduction and savings. A high-efficiency 14 SEER Carrier central air conditioning and heating system uses environmentally sustainable refrigerant. The home features a high speed structured wiring network for cable, internet and telephone.

A quartet of Four Hands swivel chairs surround the Universal Furniture International Dorchester circular wood and chrome coffee table from the Curated collection. The grouping is set on a tan Flokati area rug, a textured contrast to the sleek polished porcelain tile floor. A Cyan Design Bubbles Cash pendant chandelier hangs from a ceiling accented with floating, smooth-finished MDF panels. Backless chrome-based hydraulic lift bar stools are tucked under the Emerald Quartz quartzite-topped bar. The custom wine cabinet features an HD Metal Series racking system. Accent lighting and wood laminate turn a structural column into a design element.

The generously-sized family room allows for a full-sized Four Hands Gramercy sofa covered in an off-white chenille and accented with custom-made pillows. A pair of Universal Corbin accent chairs is covered in gray chenille. Central to the seating group is a Mandalay Furnishing’s Monaco coffee table in Smoke Grey atop an 8-by-10-foot Mariner area rug. An Alexandria pendant from Nuevo hangs above. A credenza anchors the media wall, while the stainless-steel cable system on the stairway formalizes the room.

Snow White Zodiaq quartz from DuPont tops the Kitchen Craft Newhaven maple cabinets in Weathered Slate. The upper cabinets feature backlit frosted glass inserts. The backsplash is 2-by-12-inch horizontal stacked tiles. A trio of Nuevo Irene pendant lamps dangles above the waterfall quartz kitchen island. Chrome colored steel-framed Nuevo Aaron counter stools are covered in white Naugahyde. The kitchen is outfitted with stainless steel GE appliances. Matchstick blinds soften the light from the kitchen window.

The dining area is an extension of the kitchen. Not a formal dining room per se; nevertheless, the designers used sleek surfaces and simple lines to give the space a formal air. Two mirror-front cabinets placed side-by-side serve as a buffet. Six tufted-back armless Parsons chairs covered in gray linen around a glass-topped, steel-based Tiffany pedestal dining table from Nuevo. Arterior’s Dallas chandelier in polished nickel features clear glass spheres and 12 of its 18 arms are adjustable. Robert Allen Sheer Path draperies in Duralee Vapor fabric filter the light without spoiling the view.

Keeping the master bedroom light and airy, the design team specified a smooth coat on the ceiling, and then used a 2-by-4-inch smooth finish poplar product—standing on edge—to create a harlequin pattern inside the coffer. Glossy white paint ties the ceiling into the crown molding with a crisp, clean look. Fluted glass triangular rods are embedded in a polished nickel sphere to create Arterior’s Hanley chandelier. The upholstered platform bed is covered in charcoal linen, with button tufting. Dimond Lighting Munich table lamps sit atop nightstands.

Extensive use of tile in a monochromatic scheme results in a spa-like ambiance in the master bath. Floor and shower wall tiles are 12-by-24-inch Basinos Bianco Carrara in a high gloss finish. Tile was even used on the vanity wall—2-by-12-inch tiles laid in a herringbone pattern. A trio of three-light wall sconces connects the two oversized bevel-framed mirrors. Sleek Montgomery Cambria from the Waterstone Collection tops a span of acrylic cabinets.

Floored with pavers, the lanai is large enough to host a full complement of outdoor furniture. Garden stools serve as end tables to twin sofas. The Phillips Collection Freeform Bench is actually a resin composite. A combination of bronze antique 24-inch squares and mini green gold leaf squares decorates the wall. On a patio in the yard, four Standish club chairs are grouped around an aquamarine ceramic table.
