Cool breezes and cheerful sunlight flow easily through a spacious hideaway of casual, semi-formal Florida living. Facing west to welcome golden sunsets and located on one of Naples’ widest and most stunning canals, the home is carefully situated to conceal its considerable size of 7,361 square feet, including 4,812 square feet under air and a massive 8-car garage. Through the collaborative handiwork of developer G.O. Thornhill of Salem Homes and the design team of Jeffrey and Deborah Fisher of Jeffrey Fisher Home, along with the craftsmanship of fabulous Naples artisans such as Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, this home combines the elements of both luxury and leisure into the very definition of Florida class.
Upon approach, the home reveals a distinctly Floridian feel in its understated elegance. “We wanted to create a home that expresses quality and excellence without being overwhelming,” states Thornhill. “Through custom designing a floor plan that is deeper than it is wide, and by fitting the home on the property in a natural manner, we were able to maintain the simplicity and still give the owner plenty of space.” Additionally, native landscape pieces, including the property’s original coconut palms, were utilized to further the sense that the home belongs to its environment.
Through the grand wood doorway, the foyer leads directly into the living room, a space defined by both symmetry and style. Matching sets of furnishings—sofas, trees, tables, and sconces—imbue the space with a sense of formality. This is balanced comfortably by a plethora of large pillows, a playful color scheme, and plenty of open space. The walls are papered in a 5” neutral stripe wallpaper from Farrow & Ball that continues onto the ceiling. Two identical oversized mirrors hang above each sofa reflecting the wooden chandelier. “And to prove we didn’t want to take the room too seriously, we anchored all the furniture with a sea grass rug,” describes Deborah Fisher.
“With the interiors of this home,” relates Fisher, “we strike a balance between casual and semi-formal living. Often times in Naples, it’s the purchasers second or third home. We believe it’s important to not recreate the interior of their other homes, but rather provide familiar elements of quality that make new homeowners feel immediately comfortable and relaxed.” The dining room reinforces this paradox of comfort and elegance with the hardwood table and slipcovered chairs. The splendor of the outdoors is drawn in with the placement of a large mirror over the buffet.
These comforts rest on exquisite French white oak floors that extend throughout the home. “Each piece is carefully chosen and custom crafted, board-by-board,” explains Arturo Guido of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, a 5th generation artisan company dating back to the late 1800s. “We treat each board with a furniture finish, accentuating the thin grain and bringing out the unique, organic wonder of the wood,” explains Guido.
The spacious kitchen boasts a large central countertop, top-of-the-line appliances, and an abundance of cabinetry. “There is plenty of space to allow for ease of movement,” says Thornhill. “Whether cooking breakfast for two or hosting a party, it is easy to manage.”
The great room, which leads directly to the outdoor living space, is another comfortable gathering area for family and friends. Comfortable furniture and fun colors invite residents to put their feet up and read a good book. Plenty of space and seating encourages friends to stop by and watch a game or join in a movie night. “Deb and I believe in designing for how people live,” shares Fisher, “while at the same time, curating a look for how they’ve always wanted to live.”
The master suite is purposely spacious and sparse, letting the occupants of the room wake up every morning and feel like they’re on holiday. The color palette of blues and greens used in the other rooms continues here, with the emphasis on blue. The exquisiteness of the oak flooring is mirrored in the simple lines of the four-post bed. Window treatments are a point of pride for Jeffrey Fisher Home, and here they use the same cream linen and Kravet trim for both the bedroom and master bath, covering large panes that allow abundant natural light. The master bath boasts marble floors, a free-standing tub, and a brilliant starburst chandelier.
The study is a cozy room which can serve as a retreat, for drinks and conversation, or as a private work space, with a shagreen desk facing the street. The walls are papered with a neutral texture and match the color of the sheers to achieve a monotone feel. The room is furnished with a leather sofa, comfortable chairs, and a collection of different sunburst mirrors. Besides the overhead fixture, three additional lamps enable full control of the light to match the mood of the occasion.
At the back of the home, a patio space provides a splendid and private overlook of Flamingo Cove, one of Naples’ most beautiful wide canals, just off of Naples Bay. Whether lounging in the spa, cooling off in the pool, or indulging in a feast from the summer kitchen, this outdoor space is sure to offer the finest in Florida leisure.
