Southwest Florida : Home Tour : Gulf Jewel

A successful collaboration takes more than talent – it requires vision, passion, and an unyielding commitment toward a mutually desired objective. When achieved, the result is priceless. This impressive 6,032 square foot property, overlooking Inner Doctor’s Bay, is the upshot of that kind of partnership – a stunning waterfront gem that is one of a kind.

“It was a terrific project,” says Chuck Rainey, Partner and Vice President, BCB Homes. “A beautiful property built with energy efficient materials and durable systems designed to reduce heat load, improve air quality, reduce noise and humidity, and curb costs for the homeowner over time.”

In fact, if first impressions set the tone for what’s to come, look no further than the front entryway. Greeted by a magnificent two-story, up-lit, vaulted ceiling, the sheer height and breadth of the space is remarkable. “The soaring ceiling with beams and tongue-and-groove cypress creates a warm, inviting space,” explains John Cooney, Partner, Stofft Cooney Architects. “Paneled wainscoting further enhances the home’s traditional feel.” Handsome Hickory Sheffield flooring by Garrison contrasts crisp, white walls, while a polished nickel and glass ceiling fixture from Wilson Lighting adds just the right amount of sparkle and shine. A delightfully unexpected landing by the stairway showcases an intriguing chest from Somerset Bay. The Stanton Fillmore carpet runner decorating the stairs adds warmth and texture underfoot, while offsetting the loftiness of the room.

The office space is designed for the lady of the house. Highlighting custom wainscoting and aqua-painted built-ins, it radiates an energetic refinement. A cream-colored linen settee, ottoman, and desk chair, all by Bay Design Store, adorn the space attractively, while a bright blue-dyed cowhide rug serves as a sensational centerpiece.

Upon entering the main living area, one is greeted by 1,400 square feet of open concept living space, 12-foot-high wood-box-beamed ceilings, and spectacular west-facing views of the bay. The great room features furniture selections custom-designed by Bay Design Store, in a palette of aqua, cream and taupe. “It’s a fairly traditional coastal -inspired home featuring architectural elements reminiscent of New England, but with a tropical twist,” clarifies James Kunstel, ASID, Vice President and Design Director, Bay Design Store. “It’s a multifunctional space that strikes a perfect balance for casual sophistication.” Semi-sheer drapes in a Robert Allen fabric, dual chandeliers, and a gorgeous baby grand piano, set the tone for luxurious yet comfortable living.

Connecting the great room to the kitchen is a visually-inspiring, circular bar showcasing granite quartzite countertops and espresso-stained cabinets by AlliKristé. Bar chairs in a luscious, aqua leather provide that perfect pop of color while offering additional lounging possibilities.

As one transitions into the dining area, pale aqua walls, and a white tongue-and-groove beamed ceiling create an understated yet effective backdrop for this enchanting kitchen. A large, antiqued aqua center island by AlliKristé, mimics the curved design of the bar while making optimum use of space. “We were looking for clean, crisp styling with a lot of versatility,” expresses Bob Ostrowski, Senior Designer and Partner of AlliKristé. “By incorporating the banquette, we created a warm, gracious eat-in dining arrangement while accentuating the island as the room’s focal point.”

Ample storage, seamless traffic pattern, and high-end appliances, including a custom-paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, Wolf warming drawer, Viking Dual Fuel range, and double Miele dishwashers, make this an entertainer’s paradise. “The kitchen truly is the heart of the home where we create, socialize, and get inspiration,” reiterates Marisa Urquides, Senior Marketing Manager, Florida Builder Appliances.

Crystal blue walls coupled with a bright white, tongue-and-groove beamed, vaulted ceiling, create a sense of airiness in the master bedroom. An engaging sitting area, surrounded by windows, reveals mesmerizing water views. A 3-foot-wide pendant chandelier from Global Views, sundial Hyperion wool carpeting by Fabrica, and custom-designed valances, drapes, and furniture by Bay Design Store, all add to the room’s soft, feminine mystique. “It is the epitome of a perfect escape,” describes Kirsten Workinger, Design Associate, Bay Design Store. “Elegant, calm and soothing, the colors just melt away into the sky and water.”

That sense of graceful fluidity is carried through into the master bath where Terra Bella white Carrara Select marble tiles, polished mosaics, and an intricate mugwort grey circle inset turn the floor and shower into a work of art. The walls of the vaulted, double shower are brilliantly clad from slabs of the same marble, as are the countertops. “This client was very involved in selecting the finishes, colors, textures, and details,” explains Kacey Webb, Design Consultant for Abbey Carpet & Floor. “And together, we succeeded in executing that vision.” AlliKristé cabinetry, free-standing soaking tub, and Currey & Company silver leaf chandelier, elegantly finish off the space.

With its open great room design, the home has no formal dining room. Instead, the homeowners opted for utilizing the large indoor-outdoor lanai space as the dining space. Large scale, soft and comfortable chairs were specifically chosen to allow for versatile use as either dinner seating or casual lounging. White cushions with an aqua geometric design connect the chairs to the home’s color palette. Above, the ceiling is a tongue-and-groove dark stained cypress, while the flooring is travertine tile, laid out in a delightfully random pattern.

The breathtaking rear exterior of the home continues the home’s design, but with brighter, bolder tones. A large spillover pool, inlaid with aqua and turquoise tile, is complimented by dark deck furniture with vibrant turquoise cushions. A contemporary outdoor fireplace adds style while providing the perfect spot for sunset cocktails.
