Southwest Florida : Home Tour : Enduring Charm

This Mediterranean-inspired home combines a lighter color palette with soothing furnishings and textures that are light-filled and natural to the Florida lifestyle. Located in a private neighborhood in the prestigious community of Grey Oaks, the Alessandra is a single-story luxury villa that projects a distinct charisma very much in keeping with the Naples lifestyle.

Built by Diamond Custom Homes, the residence is characterized by a handsome 10-foot-high mahogany and glass entry door, dramatic concrete barrel tile roof in terracotta tones, and a smooth stucco exterior painted in a mellow “townhouse tan.” The front elevation is well-defined with elongated windows, elevated tower entry with precast cladding and columns, and tropical scenery.

“The Alessandra exudes a classical Mediterranean feel while still maintaining sophisticated details and appointments,” says John Cooney, Partner of Stofft Cooney Architects. “The interior has a modern amenitized plan to fit today’s lifestyle.” Lusia (“Lou”) Shafran, Owner of Pacifica Interior Design partnered with Stofft Cooney Architects to  accomplish the interior architectural details. After passing through a lovely foyer, one is greeted by a generously-sized living room with soft grey walls. A 13-foot-high triple coffered ceiling with crown molding, Isokern fireplace surrounded in marble with custom wood detailing, and cream-colored marble floors integrate seamlessly. An off-white sofa and matching chair set in a linen blend from Century Furniture, geometric-patterned Afghan area rug, and exquisite high-end silk throw pillows add warmth, texture, and harmonizing nuances of color.

The oversized mirrored coffee table acts as a great centerpiece to the room with its impressive size and bold presentation. Offsetting that, are two espresso-finished chairs upholstered in a sleek grey Jim Thompson silk. Flanking either side of the fireplace, their graceful lines and fluid design balance the room beautifully. Layers of carefully selected accessories create a dynamic tableau that adds significantly to the room’s overall allure. In particular, a sparkling glass bowl from Cyan Design, and pair of porcelain vases displayed on the mantle with fanciful sprays of cherry blossom blooms.

“It’s a masterfully executed design by the award winning team here at Pacifica,” says Shafran. “Casual yet livable, with a setting of understated elegance that stirs an emotional response, proving that a home doesn’t have to be massive in size to be impressive.”

That same sense of refinement and sophistication is replicated in the formal dining room. A capiz shell pendant chandelier, Pacifica Interior custom-designed pedestal dining table with glass top, and set of white linen dining chairs with beaded detailing, blend together effortlessly for a stunning effect. A small Moroccan chest, decorative urn, and series of oversized custom-framed botanical prints not only reflect natural elements, but highlight the gold, gray and cream color palette revisited throughout the home.

The family room continues in the same vein, but with a more casual application as is witnessed by the bolder patterns and French white oak floors. Four cushy chairs with throw pillows covered in complementary fabrics provide comfortable seating in a relaxed setting. The espresso-finished maple coffee table and coordinating shelving system were custom-designed and manufactured by Pacifica Interiors specifically to suit the space and style. “Rather than incorporating a bulky built-in shelving system or oversized table, we opted to custom make pieces that fulfill their purpose while still maintaining clean, simple lines,” explains Shafran. A natural sisal rug, bamboo plant, abundance of natural light, and immediate access to the outdoor living area gives the room an open, airy, spacious feeling. An inspiring mix of accessories completes the look for an effect that is richly appointed without feeling cluttered or overdone.

The kitchen bar chairs are upholstered in the same vibrant fabrics as seen in the family room, incorporating a pleasing consistency while still maintaining a sense of vitality. Frosted glass accents with up-lights enhance the height of the room while gorgeous ivory-grey granite countertops, a mixed mosaic backsplash, and high-end appliances and fixtures, coordinate seamlessly for an upbeat look that’s invigorating. “It has balance with a universal appeal,” expresses Bob Ostrowski, Senior Designer and Partner, AlliKristé Custom Cabinetry and Kitchen Design. “It’s a transitional kitchen that combines the best of traditional styling with clean, modern design to set the trend-defying tone…straight lines and sleek styling.” Synthesizing an espresso finished center island with white cabinet perimeter creates a mix that is fresh and exciting. With the kitchen operating as the heart of the home, the fusing of colors and finishes adds a joie de vivre that is irresistible.

Chic, original, and a little retro, one might mistake the guest bedroom for an upscale boutique hotel suite. The oatmeal linen tufted wing bed with nail head detailing, antique-inspired sunburst mirror, and fabulous medallion-patterned draperies in a cotton Schumacher fabric, set the tone for a lavish boudoir experience in an absolutely luscious setting. Two Moroccan chests, pair of nickel polished lamps, and Dea fine Italian bed linens, finish the room off perfectly.

The master suite features a custom wood detailing that is whimsical, charming and imaginative. A series of custom framed antique ivory-carved-collectibles above the bed further accentuate the repeated box design. Plush bed linens and silk throw pillows adorn a handsome four poster bed flanked by mirrored chests and sleek column lamps. A pair of gray silk Draper chairs, Asian inspired desk, and delicate chandelier with crystal teardrops, coalesce with ease. Like the rest of the home, versatile components are graciously incorporated in a definitively cohesive way for an overall design that is as reminiscent as it is timeless.
