Santa Barbara Style

The Lucia model home at Quail West, built by the Newport Companies with interior design by Lusia Shafran of Landmark Design, offers California Santa Barbara elegance and gracious living in a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath home offering almost 6,000 square feet of living space lavished with a transitional style. The circular entrance drive of the two-story custom residence consists of brick pavers laid in a cobblestone pattern and features a bougainvillea-laden landscape island.

In keeping with the Santa Barbara style of the residence, the whitewashed front elevation makes use of stained cypress at the decorative corbels, balcony and shutters. A mahogany and glass front entry door and trellised bougainvillea welcome visitors to the home, which also offers a three-car garage plus storage room.

A magnificent two-story foyer features a decorative tray ceiling with faux detailing. Custom wrought-iron handrails in a silvered finish appear on the staircase leading to second floor loft. There is also a custom elevator complete with wood panels and stainless steel trim.

Understated sophistication reigns in the living room, where the mirrored raised panel fireplace surround and formal columns have been painted white. The fireplace is flanked by two custom-built demilune cabinets with Mark Rothko-inspired artwork above. Atop the chipped edge marble flooring, a custom rug with green stripes adds a dash color beside a sofa and slipper chairs upholstered in cream fabric. The room also boasts crown moulding throughout and a silver leaf and glass coffee table. French doors offer views of the golf course and have been finished with panels of creamy Dupioni silk.

Espresso-stained hardwood floors were used in the family room, where custom millwork cabinetry flanks the window seat in the adjacent breakfast nook. The family room walls were given a faux linen look and the upholstery in the room is confined to white, cream, and shades of brown. The custom-made, 48” x 48” bronze and glass coffee table sits atop a sisal rug and the wicker lounge chairs are covered in cream upholstery accented with hand-embroidered pillows bearing a tropical leaf motif. A wall of three French doors with transoms require no decoration and allow access to the outdoor living area beyond.

A study in cream, white, and rich dark hardwoods, the kitchen stands apart from the pack with custom off-white cabinetry detailed with a raised panel “X” motif and creamy cool granite countertops. The walls boast a faux linen treatment and the space contains two islands, two sinks, and a custom-designed wood range hood above a window offering garden views. In addition, the residence enjoys a butler’s pantry with upper and lower cabinets, refrigerator and ice maker. The gourmet kitchen also features a Wolf 48” gas range and separate warming drawer, a Subzero refrigerator, Miele and Asko dishwashers, and a KitchenAid TruConvection microwave.
The walls in the spacious and elegant study have been Stié finished in shades of green and brown that lend added luster to the custom wooden cabinetry and paneling lining the room. On one side of the custom built partner’s desk is an armchair covered in rich brown leather, while opposite has been placed a parsons chair upholstered in green and white fabric, a color scheme repeated in the traversing draperies covering view-front windows. A chocolate brown leather sofa is accented with animal print pillows and is flanked by two contemporary obelisk-style floor lamps in wood and chrome. The artwork in the room includes an abstract piece over the desk and contemporary design renderings of Palladium style homes hang above the sofa.

Sunny and spacious, the classically inspired master bedroom is done in shades of pale apple green with accents of chocolate brown. The stepped tray ceiling is rich in crown moulding details and has been given the same faux finish that appears on the walls and is completed with hand applied stenciling in an interlocking scroll design. The wood framed slipper bed has been upholstered at the head and foot boards in pale green silk and boasts embroidered Dea sheets. The off-white silk bed covering is accented by the addition of a faux fur throw. The chandelier features amber blown glass shades and casts a warm glow throughout the space. The layered window treatments include a drapery valence with stationary side panels, all done in a fabric in a batik stencil motif. Transitional lucite and chrome lamps were placed on the bed tables and a striking custom sized and colored abstract artwork hangs above the bed.
The clean lines of the home extend outdoors, where an L-shaped pool features a multi-level deck of sand set Turkish travertine, a spill over spa, detached fountain and custom designed cypress trellis. In the covered outdoor entertainment area with its long golf course views, the cypress ceiling lends elegance to space that is also home to a free-standing vent-less gas fireplace in the sitting area. The outdoor kitchen includes a separate island for entertaining with a 36” Dacor gas grill, sink, and under-counter refrigerator.

Built with an eye to creating an innovative Santa Barbara style residence in Southwest Florida and designed with clean lines and crisp cool colors, the Lucia at Quail West offers individual style, ease of living and elegant transitional interiors.
