Of
the Wind
Renowned for building superlative homes that
exceed all expectations, John Cannon Homes, Inc. leaves no stone unturned
when it comes to
paying attention to the details. The Camira, named for the Aboriginal
term meaning “of the wind,” closely replicates a grand palazzo
in the Piazza San Marco on the Grand Canal in Venice.
Tall and majestic, the home, which has beautiful lake views on three sides,
is located in the exclusive Lake Club enclave of Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota.
The multi-gabled roofline, linen-colored stucco façade, wrought
iron detailing and perfectly manicured entrance complement one another,
resulting in an alluring and pastoral setting.
The sheer beauty and magnificence of the home is recognized immediately
upon entering the two-story foyer. The gallery, with its elaborately tiled
floor, joins the master suite at one end of the home to the dining room
at the other end and acts to separate the formal living room from the
entrance. Above the gallery, the second floor bridge also divides the
expansive foyer and living room spaces.
A buttery shade of golden flax was used on most of the walls, giving the
interiors an Old World patina, which is further enhanced by the diagonally
set aspen-hued floor tiling that was used throughout most of the first
floor common areas.
To say that the living room is spectacular would be an understatement.
Facing the rear of the home, the two-story façade, with its incredible
configuration of floor-to-ceiling mullioned windows, is truly a showstopper.
Two fixed glass French doors flank either side of the center window and
open up onto the expansive oasis-like pool and spa area.
To the right of the astonishing window wall is a hand-carved, cast stone
fireplace, which is flanked on both sides by a pair of display niches.
A custom mosaic design sits center stage in a recessed area above the
fireplace. An abundance of custom millwork and framed art bring the height
of the room down to a more intimate proportion.
To the left of the foyer, a staircase ascends to the second floor where
the bridge, which overlooks the living and dining rooms and foyer, connects
two guest rooms and baths to the large bonus/media room. Adjacent to the
media room, a wrought iron spiral staircase descends from the large covered
lanai to the pool and spa deck below.
The dining room, with its two-story, multi-paned, bay-shaped windows,
extensive custom millwork and brilliant, multi-colored flooring details
is a total amalgamation of rich shades of cinnabar, moss and gold. Taffeta
draperies fall from the second-story ceiling, acting to unite the room’s
rich colors and textures. In the center of the room, a striking chandelier
adds even more drama to the colorful room.
The kitchen is adjacent to the dining room and accessible through the
well-equipped Butler’s Pantry. Golden Santa Cecillia granite countertops
complement the kitchen’s wrap-around backsplash, which is a colorful
explosion of bronze, Kashmir and amber hand-cut, glass mosaic pieces.
Above the eight-burner range, a pair of bronze-colored frames surrounds
the tiling creating a faux medallion design.
Beautiful, custom designed, chocolate-glazed raised panel cabinetry abounds.
A band of hand-cut wood roping, meant which looks like “wheat”
kernels, surrounds the upper cabinets and crowned valances. The wheat
kernel design is repeated in the decorative iron grills, which float on
top of the framed and tiled medallions. A wood-flooring inset surrounding
the center island further enhances the island’s gorgeous teak countertop.
A profusion of natural sunlight shines through a myriad of tall, mullioned
windows and transoms, bringing the family room’s butterscotch-hued
walls to life and creating an antiqued, Old World luster. A comfortable
arrangement of okra-hued furnishings with Indian Kashmiri accents faces
a lightly distressed, custom designed cherry wood entertainment center.
The pool and spa are easily accessible from the family room.
To the right of the foyer, the gallery leads to a cozy den that precedes
the glorious and spacious master suite. Painted a luxurious shade of bronzed
chocolate, the master bedroom is enhanced by several tall, multi-paned
windows and corresponding transoms, as well as by a pair of French doors,
which lead out to the master suite’s private lanai and subsequent
pool and spa.
A large brass chandelier is suspended from the room’s coffered ceiling,
which has been painted in a soft, double-blended manner, creating a luminous
blanket of soft sky blues and creamy vanilla shades over the center of
the room. One corner of the bedroom has been designated as a large sitting
area.
An intimate hallway leads from the master bedroom to the spacious bath
area. The master bath is a study in rich textures and even more deliciously
toned colors resulting in a spectacularly designed space. Luxuriant Emperador
Dark granite was used to cover the vanity countertops and tub steps and
deck, which are complemented by the glazed and distressed maple cabinets.
Travertine-hued walls further enhance the ambient setting.
The Venetian-inspired, jewel toned interiors, coupled with the extensive
exterior architectural detailing, including custom designed wrought iron
balconies, terracotta barrel roof tiles and creamy linen-hued stucco walls,
emphasize the home’s Italian-inspired design. Situated on a beautiful
homesite, which faces a large lake, The Camira is in a class by itself.
