Flooring
Provides Instant Update
No one can deny that Southwest Florida has enjoyed
an unprecedented boom in new home sales over the past decades, but what
people often overlook is that resales of area homes account for a large
majority of the turnover in today’s real estate market.
With many area homes and condos having been built upwards of fifteen years
ago, buyers who are currently purchasing these residences invariably have
a remodeling job ahead of them. Builders, designers and contractors are
all agreed on one remodeling concept - updating the existing flooring
can instantly provide a more contemporary look to an older home.
Rick Johnson of Pelican Bay Floors has been in the flooring business for
over forty years and carries every kind of flooring imaginable, from carpet
and tile to hardwood.
According to Johnson, “Nowadays, when people buy a condo or home,
chances are that it’s over twenty years old and in need of an update.
Today, remodels are the guts of our business. We tear out the old and
assist our clients with selecting new floors.”
Nothing dates a home like the old, white four by four ceramic flooring
tiles. Using today’s larger eighteen inch tiles will give your floors
a much more contemporary appearance.
“Natural is the key word in floors today,” says Johnson, “Color,
texture and size are the three things to look for when shopping for tile.
And when you’re doing a remodel, you can’t beat working with
a professional in order to avoid flooring pitfalls about which the average
consumer is unaware.”
Johnson suggests laying tile on the diagonal, as this lends more style
to the layout, as well as helping to make the room appear larger. Another
trick of the trade is that by using larger floor tiles you can eliminate
the number of grout lines needed in a design, resulting in a bigger grid
pattern that seems less busy and makes room seem larger.
Porcelain tile continues to be the most popular flooring choice, followed
closely by hardwood and then carpeting. Occasionally, homeowners simply
want to replace a portion of the old flooring. In these cases, Johnson
suggests paying close attention to floor transitions where the old flooring
will meet the new.
By working with a flooring professional and choosing contemporary flooring
from the vast selection available today, you’ll not only be happy
with the updated results - you’ll be adding to the resale value
of your home.
