No longer is the family pool just a mundane
concrete hole in the ground, rectangular and filled with aqua water. Today’s

Lucas Congdon, president of Lucas Lagoons, Inc. relocated to Sarasota
five years ago and promptly won the Sarasota Beautification Award for
his first design project in Sarasota, a waterscape feature at the Sarasota
Garden Club. He magically transformed a dull, concrete ditch into a lush
tropical fairy tale garden complete with waterfalls, a babbling brook
and two wooden bridges.
What makes a Lucas Lagoon different? Every Lucas Lagoon project combines
Lucas' design genius with the client’s particular tastes to build
something absolutely unique. Congdon uses all natural stone trucked
in from Tennessee in his designs, as opposed to the fiberglass or concrete
stone that is typically used. Because Lucas does all his own landscape
design, he adds the perfect combination of native plants and trees to
enhance the lagoon’s design. The fit between the natural environment
and the pool is so perfect that it often looks as if the home was built
around the lagoon, not the other way around. Each lagoon project forms
a living, breathing environment that becomes a magical little backyard
wonderland.
Peter Laughlin of Laughlin’s Luxury Properties, developer of Solymar
and Casa Del Playa on Siesta Key, contacted Lucas to install pools at
three separate properties. “I had three homes where I had a limited
amount of space to put a pool. I wanted to create more than just a pool.
I wanted to create a feeling. I knew that I wanted rock formations, waterfalls
and plants, and I wanted it to be unique. I did some research and interviewed
other companies, but when Lucas came out to the site, he just got it.
He understood exactly what I wanted and his execution was just excellent.”
Not only does Congdon build new pools, he also does pool remodels. This
means that you are never stuck with the pool your home came with - you
can create another, with Lucas Lagoon’s help. Congdon and his team
of highly trained stone masons can take your ordinary backyard pool and
transform it into a lush oasis with natural rock waterfalls, tropical
plants, and landscape lighting. Every part of the project is integrated by

property.
Mike and Mary Jackson, of Bradenton, recently had Lucas remodel their
existing pool. “We contacted Lucas after seeing his work on-line.
At first we had contacted another company, but they didn’t have
the vision that Lucas did,” says Mary. “Lucas added a beautiful
waterfall and a natural rock planter along one side. He also resurfaced
our pool to look like a lagoon. The end result is more than we ever anticipated.
One of our neighbors from Kentucky came by and said ‘Oh my goodness,
it looks like a piece of the Smokey Mountains right here in Florida.’
