Sophisticated Sanctuary

A private home located in Shadow Wood’s Glen Lakes neighborhood at The Brooks, this casual yet sophisticated and elegant sanctuary exudes charm and warmth. With a total of 1,156 square feet of well-designed living space, it is filled with a plethora of beautiful interior appointments. Just as all the elements of a great painting do not compete but complement, visitors are drawn into this home with a desire to experience its total sense of serenity and character.

Working closely with the homeowners, Heather Jennings, ASID of Agostino’s Design Group collaborated with the talents of a highly gifted faux painter and other master craftsmen to select the architectural detailing which gives this home its unique character. The results make perfection and luxury appear as inherent rights of home ownership.

The double iron Cantera doors offer an impressive invitation to enter. Inside the foyer they deliver their promise of surprise and delight, a breathtaking throughview of the negative-edge pool and lake beyond. Says Heather Jennings, “The illusion makes a lasting impression. Looking through the butted seamless glass in the living room, it appears that the water from the pool and spa is flowing into the lake.”

The serene view of lake and golf course can be seen from each of the home’s living spaces. It becomes obvious that the architect had the view in mind “before” the floorplan that includes four three bedrooms and four bathrooms. A home built to appreciate the loveliness of the natural environment and local wildlife, its sophisticated furnishings and soft palette of beige, gold and terra cotta, along with hints of varying green hues do not vie. Blending equally as seamlessly as glass that allows the views, they are also intentionally unchallenged by any window treatments.

Both Jennings and the homeowner preferred the clean and simple lines of tailored valances and cornices that would not obstruct the lure of the Florida lifestyle that allows life to be lived simultaneously indoors and outdoors. The pavered lanai, natural stone fireplace and conversational seating area in the screened-enclosed outdoor living area, along with the covered dining area give the homeowners many options for entertaining. The lanai is also fully accessible from the master suite, living room and family room.

The floorplan is as open and inviting as the view. Setting the tone from the point of entry is the multi-colored natural stone floor in an ashlar pattern. It flows effortlessly from room to room stopping only at the master suite and guest bedrooms that are carpeted.

The living room, graced with a magnificent baby grand piano offers a hint that its owners are appreciative of the finer details of life. Looking up, the observation is confirmed. A magnificent triple tray ceiling detail with rope lighting includes a hand - painted faux medallion. Techniques of faux paint also mimic the brown glazed maple wood cabinetry that appears in the kitchen and custom built-ins in the family room, as well as in the double hutch in the dining room.

“We created continuity throughout the home by carrying over other details such as the design of the medallion in the pendant light fixture that is in the foyer. Other things that create a sense of seamlessness and flow are the continuation of the color theme that varies only subtly from room to room. Fabrics throughout the home in differing patterns and textures pick up the colorful tones of terra cotta and persimmon,” comments Jennings who points out that the decorative pillows on the angled living room sofa are detailed with a bouillon fringe and cording in green, bronze and terra cotta. “The pillows are covered in the same fabric as the backs of the dining room chairs,” adds Jennings.

While an angled sofa upholstered in a beige chenille fabric invites a gathering around the piano, it also gives way to glimpses of the butler’s pantry, just before the kitchen, as well as to the dining room in the opposite direction.

The dining room’s elegant faux-painted double tray ceiling mimics a pattern in the home’s Cantera double door entry. The handpainted mural appears between the double hutches that offer a myriad of storage. A magnificent dining room table seats eight comfortably. Its parquet top and easy-to-care for chairs with leather seats add a hint of tradition. Window treatments are bronze silk panels with a green accent band and are hung on decorative medallions.

The kitchen with its granite countertops and state-of-the art brushed stainless steel appliances offers more casual dining alternatives. Enhanced by textured faux painted walls, the kitchen also offers the passionate home chef ample opportunities to enjoy the company of guests who will be in full view from the adjoining family room.

Saving the restful sanctuary of the master suite for the end of the day, this perfect retreat offers much peace and comfort. Lush short shag carpet is easy on the feet that will want to regularly make their way to the luxurious master bath. If sleep eludes either of the homeowners, the quiet study is just around the corner. Here, a classic book is easily accessible from the beautiful built-in bookcase. It can be enjoyed in either of two leather chairs.
