Urban Chic Meets Marco Beach

Located on the 24th floor of a luxury high-rise building at the tip of Marco Island, the most remarkable characteristic of this beautiful condominium is the total sense of emotional and physical tranquility that it exudes.

According to Kira Krümm, a licensed interior designer and owner of Kira Krümm Interior Design in Naples, “My clients wanted a contemporary design that was both sophisticated and timeless. It was also important that the design take into account the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico.”

Krümm realized her clients’ dream through the meticulous selection of fabrics, furnishings, art and accessories, taking great strides to select just the right textures and colors to capture the essence of the home - the end result being a home that is “one with the sea.”

In the dining room, soft linen-hued walls act as a canvas for two original paintings depicting Japanese Koi fish. The sky and subsequent water are reflected in a large platinum-framed mirror. Encircled by a group of ebony chairs, which are upholstered in a raw silk and linen fabric in shades of French blue and soft seashell beige, the highly polished and lacquered cherry table mirrors the room’s circular, cove-lit, striped ceiling.

Adding a custom-designed wainscot panel to the dining room made the room cozier and more inviting. A stunning Saturnia Travertine marble was used on all the common area floors and creates a natural flow between the dining and living areas. Two decorative columns act to visually separate the two rooms.

The grand salon epitomizes the “transitional” look that the designer and her clients wanted when designing the home. Classic fabrics, such as the shimmery, aqua-hued velvet that was used to upholster two ebony wood chairs, as well as the window valance, and the creamy, vanilla-hued leather and chenille sofa, introduce texture and color to the sun-infused setting.

A pair of platinum finished side tables, a distressed ebony coffee table and a scattering of decorative pillows serve as further testament to the designer’s attention to detail and commitment to her clients to create an unique, individualized environment. Horizontally striped, sheer drapery panels in soft shades of linen, platinum and blue are reminiscent of the undulating ripples of the sea as the wind gently wafts over its surface. Tying the room together is a large area rug in shades of espresso, linen, sand and aqua.

Although the builder had previously selected the materials for the kitchen, Krümm improved upon the design by adding a full counter-to-cabinet backsplash. She also custom-designed a colorful granite and marble medallion above the cooktop, which is framed in brushed nickel with a travertine insert.

One of Krümm’s signature touches is the use of original art to enhance the individuality of each room. In the family room, two original oil and pastel paintings take center stage above the sofa, which is upholstered in an stylishly patterned chenille in deep, luxurious shades of sea blue, slate and wheat. Four leather and chenille upholstered cubes act as an ottoman/coffee table, while also providing additional seating.

The family room also has an square ebony table and four corresponding high-back chairs that are covered in woven tweed in shades of espresso, rust, aqua, dusty teal and olive. The organically themed fabric is the perfect complement to the room’s custom designed, striped rug of the same colors.

The master suite is divine. Dressed in a fluffy “cake top” comforter in a mixture of colors that are reminiscent of the sea at sunrise, the platform bed, with its custom designed headboard – a composition of individually upholstered squares set in a grid-like pattern inside of an ebony frame and flanked on either side by custom rosewood panels gives an urban edge to the room. An assortment of decorative suede pillows in breezy shades of aqua, platinum and beige act as the ‘icing on the cake.’

Krümm noted that each room has a distinct look and personality of its own, but that the overall design works because there’s a sense of continuity throughout the home. With this in mind, the guest bedroom is a tropical surprise that complements the rest of the home’s design. Painted in a soft, tropical green with myriad architectural details, the room, with its kiwi-hued comforter and ocean and lime-hued 4 pillows is a delightful enclave for visiting family and friends.

To add dimension to the home’s study, Krümm applied a panoply of architectural elements to the ceiling and walls, including Madagascar wood, ebony stained moulding and unique three-dimensional square accents, thus creating an interesting pattern of horizontal and vertical lines, forming the illusion of columns. Enhancing the luxuriously smooth lambskin sofa is a collection of decorative pillows in shades of avocado, cinnabar, aqua and straw, some of which were sewn in a mitered design to mimic the millwork details.

A recipient of numerous accolades and industry honors, including numerous Sand Dollar Awards from the Collier Building Industry Association, Krümm, is recognized for her astute knowledge and application of the principles of design and architecture.

“I am passionate about what I do and approach each project as an artist would a painting. My goal is to create an original and unique design for each and everyone of my clients,” says Krümm. “This stunning home is an eclectic mix of diverse styles that work together well because the basic design aesthetic is compatible.
