Unfinished Beauty

The next time you are looking for quality, real wood furniture, start by browsing around Out On A Limb’s 4,000 square foot showroom, conveniently located on Trade Center Way in North Naples. Whether you need finished or unfinished furniture, Out On A Limb offers a varied choice of styles from a wide range of manufacturers. Owners Neville and Michele Young took over the reins of operation three years ago, when they relocated to Naples from England.

“When we first came to Naples, we looked around for a business opportunity,” explains Neville. “Out On A Limb” had been up and running for about seven years by that time and it was the most interesting business venture we found. It has also turned out to be the most rewarding.”

At one time, unfinished furniture was equated with low-end, economical furniture. Since those early days, the public perception has changed drastically, due in large part to the quality, choice and customization possibilities of unfinished furniture. Interior designers regularly take advantage of unfinished furniture because it can be custom-ordered making it perfect for finding that over-or under-sized piece of furniture, or for finding a complete room of furniture for even the most discriminating client.

“Our unfinished furniture is made from a wide variety of woods, such as pine, alder, maple, oak and cherry,” says Neville. “We can custom-finish any piece of furniture a client selects to match with any existing furniture they might have in their home via our select finishing partners. This enables our clients to choose any stained, painted or faux finish they may desire.”

When it comes to selecting furniture styles, the choices are almost limitless, as Out On A Limb carries many manufacturers’ lines, including Skog Furniture. Skog is known for their quality and designs, which feature decorative moulding and carving, polished hardware, and extras such as built-in vertical sliding shelves for music and video storage in their entertainment centers. Out On A Limb also provides complete custom services, issuing drawings based on client or designer specifications and final drawings before furniture is produced. Skog’s standard line ranges from the smallest bookcase to the largest armoire and they can also line a series of units together with common moulding to form a wall unit with a built-in look.

According to Neville, “We have a wide variety of entertainment center options due to expanding customer interest in widescreen and plasma televisions. Many of our clients combine their television cabinets with bookcases and bridges, or add optional lower and upper doors, which can feature glass or wood panels. These elements combine to create a unique entertainment center and clients can select from various styles and woods to create a truly custom unit, made just for them.”

Out On A Limb also offers dining tables and chairs, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, children’s furniture and a wide selection of office furniture, including computer armoires and file cabinets. Their in-house design service will help you to choose the perfect design and layout for your home office. “We are often asked to help our clients in the selection and set-up of various rooms. The home office is probably the most important (room) as far as preplanning is concerned,” says Neville. “Each client has individual office needs, which all require the right furniture and placement in order to combine efficiency and a professional, designer-inspired look.” Out On A Limb continually seeks to provide selection and value to their product range. One way to accomplish this is to choose quality manufacturers who offer a wide range of quality, factory-finished, real wood furniture. Pre-finished items offer an alternate way to buy real wood, but without the added cost of a custom finish.

Whatever your furniture needs, whether they are a single accent piece or an entire room, browse the Out On A Limb showroom first and discover the possibilities. The showroom is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm.
