The
Best of Two Worlds
When
Keith Basik and his father, Larry, purchased a 10-acre parcel of land
with a plethora of cypress trees and wetland preserves, they knew it could
be turned into an ideal location for a community of custom-built homes.
“Our vision was to develop a neighborhood that would be different
from any other in Naples,” said Keith Basik, co-owner of Basik Development.
The community, located between Goodlette Frank Road and US 4l near Park
Shore is one of Naples’ best-kept secrets.
Basik Development has been
developing commercial properties for 8 years; this was to be their
first residential community. The site, where 23 homes priced over $1 million
would emerge, was dubbed Hemingway Place. "It is interesting to note
that the community was endorsed by Hemingway, LTD™ – the members
of the Hemingway estate," Basik said. "I think they felt it
was something that represents their trademark well."
Stein Builders, Inc., a
local developer and homebuilder with national experience, is building
many of the homes in the community. The recipient of multiple local awards,
including Sand Dollar Community of the Year, Stein Builders, Inc. is building
eight homes at Hemingway Place. After completing several hundred new homes
over the past few years at Forest Park, Michael Stein, CEO, selected Hemingway
Place as one venue to continue his commitment to provide outstanding design
and value to his customers.
At Hemingway Place, Stein
Builders’ homes include hurricane-resistant construction, gourmet
kitchens, marble master baths, an energy winner program, among many standard
features too numerous to list. “Each home is appointed with a package
of features of exceptional value that exceeds homes sold at higher prices,”
says Stein.
The Mariel model, now open
for visitors, is a four-bedroom, four and one-half bath home with den
that features a deluxe pool and spa. This 4,400-square-foot home, built
in the Classic Revival genre is a blend of classic exterior architecture
and a modern open floor plan. Two other Stein homes currently under construction
in Hemingway Place feature a Low Country theme and a Southern Colonial
architectural design. One completed home is occupied by a resident living
in a home evocative of Old New Orleans, and Stein is currently working
on an Old Florida style design. Stein Builders, Inc. has four plans highlighting
Florida living while offering the look of period-style residences.
Homes at Hemingway Place
cannot be built willy-nilly on the 80-by-135-foot lots. An architectural
board, consisting of Keith Basik, Larry Basik and Bud Lawrence, an architect
with outstanding credentials as well as an enviable background in classical
architecture, must approve plans to make sure the community’s uniqueness
will not be compromised. Architectural styles that get two thumbs up are
Old Florida, Low Country, Victorian, French Colonial and Italianate. Other
styles may be accepted after review.
All homes must have a front
porch that is one-third of the width of the front elevation. All garages
must be set back eight feet from the front of the house. Other architectural
requirements are specified before pencil can be put to paper to start
the architectural ball rolling. “We insist upon keeping the integrity
of the design concept,” said Basik. Sidewalks on both sides of the
street were designed to meander along with the roads to add to the ambiance.”
An attractive gazebo is located in the neighborhood open space. The park
and a quaint children’s playground further enhance Hemingway Place.
The father-son developers
are not only developing Hemingway Place, but also are building a French
Country courtyard-styled home that is for sale. “We expect the styling
and features of "La Maison," the house we are building on speculation,
to be snapped up quickly because of its style, construction and many outstanding
features inside and outside the house,” said Basik. The 4,122-square-foot
home features three bedrooms, three baths, with a large bonus room above
the garage. In addition, there is also a detached cabana guest suite overlooking
the pool and preserve that is equipped with a kitchenette and pool bath.
Designed brick arches, fireplaces, cypress beamed ceilings and hardwood
floors are just a few of the many charming characteristics that make this
home very unique.
Hemingway Place residents
will have the best of two worlds: homes with outstanding character and
homes in a setting offering exceptional lifestyle and convenience.
