Fabric, Texture and Color

In tandem with a hot market, the proprietors of Stephen Todd Home Furnishings & Accents are in the enviable position of being in the right place at the right time.
When Stephen Slosburg and Todd Warner moved to Cape Coral 5 years ago, they relished the thought of relaxation. Having sold a successful furniture business in the Philadelphia area, long hours were second nature, and they looked forward to a break. Like many that move from the North, they assumed that life in paradise would be laid back. Instead, in a sizzling housing market the desire for pieces with panache grows stronger with each passing day.
At Stephen Todd Home Furnishings & Accents, you’ll find everything from comfortable sofas to elegant dining tables, from timeless chaise lounges to stylish wall hangings and lamps. While the store has become the area’s definitive source for interiors with a tropical, Mediterranean or Old World flair, catalogs from renowned manufacturers showcase every conceivable design. Customers can choose from more than 600 upholstery fabrics in an array of colors and textures.
Slosburg’s 2-year sojourn as an interior design major at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and more than 20 years in commercial sales left him with a knack for space planning. Indeed, for a design consultation fee of $75 an hour, he and staff members visit homes to assist clients with design.
“A good deal of the time we find that people do not need as much as they think,” he explains. “For that reason, the design service is appreciated. Our top priority is making sure that our clients get what they want.”
Slosburg is drawn to furniture and the interplay of fabrics, textures and colors. Each year he shops for new and interesting furniture lines. If the price is not right, though, he’s not buying.
“We might look at 17 gorgeous collections and end up with one,” he explains. “Our clients come to us from as far as Bonita Springs and Naples because we offer quality at a reasonable price.”
Warner provides the finishing touch. Each year he visits various shows throughout the United States in search of just the right accessories to create harmony on the home front. Certainly, accessorizing is an art.
“Often one piece makes all of the difference,” Warner explains. “Collections from world travels, silk flowers, the right arrangement of wall hangings, these are elements that instill a home with character.”
Stephen Todd Home Furnishings & Accents’ 7,000 square-foot showroom on Cape Coral Parkway is a place for inspiration. Indeed, before opening the store the entire building was gutted for the precise purpose of showing collections in a calm and attractive setting. The exterior façade of the building was transformed with green awnings. Inside, ceilings were torn out and fluorescent rods removed to make way for soft lighting. Carpeting was replaced with wood flooring. Walls were painted warm shades of brown and gold and embellished with faux finish. Crown moulding and arched entryways added the look of the ages.
“We want our clients to feel at home,” says Slosburg. “Todd and I are both shoppers at heart, and there is nothing worse than being hounded by sales people. We’ll supply a tape measure or advice if asked, but we really want people that stop by to have an enjoyable experience.”
In a waterfront community with warm weather year-round, outdoor rooms are an extension of indoor living. For this reason, the showroom now displays several lines of outdoor furniture.
Stephen Slosburg and Todd Warner have an exceptional edge with this one-stop resource for sophisticated home style at the right price. By using unique and unusual accessories to accent fine furnishings, Stephen Todd Home Furnishings & Accents strives to turn ordinary rooms into showplaces full of character.
