Craftsmanship With A Flair

A combination of superb craftsmanship and a flair for architectural detail are qualities that have earned McGarvey Custom Homes a well-deserved reputation for designing quality estate homes with flair. Their newest model, the Corsica at Mediterra, is no exception. The four-bedroom home, offering 4,906 square feet under air and a total of 7,340 square feet of living area, is rich with such architectural details as Keystone columns and accent trim, richly detailed volume ceilings, and a grand Mediterranean tower entryway.

Inside, the home offers features all of the elements necessary for a luxury lifestyle and comfort, such as Turkish Travertine floors with designer inlays and a lighting system that provides custom ambiance in every room with the touch of a button, as well as the convenience of being able to light all the pathways in the house from the keypad in the foyer.

In order to create an interior that would be as unique itself, McGarvey Custom Homes’ in-house designer Gloria Vickery chose to use a color scheme incorporating various shades of chocolate and raspberry.

“The combination of chocolate and raspberry is unusual,” Vickery explains, “yet very upscale. The overall effect throughout the home is both elegant and understated while, at the same time, very livable.”
From the moment the visitor steps into the grand entry gallery, it is apparent that the Corsica is unique. The foyer is comprised of a rotunda featuring a medallion in the Emperador design set into the creamy marble floor. The oval ceiling has been faux finished in muted shades of raspberry, brown and beige and is finished with a gold crown moulding detail. Impressive wall sconces light the space, while two decorative wall niches provide an elegant setting for display.

In the dining room, the large glass top table features a base of stone and allows seating for eight. The chairs are upholstered in a raspberry print with chocolate elements. Here, as elsewhere in the homes’ formal spaces, Vickery chose to use elegant silk fabrics with luxurious trims and decorative hardware at the windows. The tone-on-tone latte colored dining room drapes feature a fringe trim and hangs from decorative medallions. The pop-up coffered ceiling features crown moulding detail and has been faux finished to reflect the colors used in the room. The dining room also features built-in cabinetry and entry to the nearby wine room.

The elegant living room is rich in architectural detail, including a Keystone fireplace complete with decorative corbels and the niche above that is flanked by two arched niches containing display shelves. The ceiling has been faux finished in layers of chocolate, latte and raspberry. The sofa, covered in silk, is accompanied by two tapestry armchairs, as well as a chair covered in a rich raspberry fabric. Elaborate wall sconces frame a unique painting that depicts an ornate vase and reflects all of the colors used in the space, as does the oriental area rug. At the window, which offers stunning views of the pool area, Vickery used a silk fabric embellished with fringe trim and tasseled tie-backs. The custom `scene lighting’ that has been installed throughout the home provides accent lighting on the display shelves and artwork throughout the room. Understated and inviting, the living room is the perfect setting for formal entertaining.

Casual gatherings take place in the family room where the coffered ceiling has been given a tongue-and-groove wood inlay and generous layers of crown moulding. The overstuffed sofas are covered in a custom-ordered blended fabric in chocolate and raspberry and face the built-in entertainment center. The armchairs boast wood frames and woven wicker side panels and are covered in a plaid fabric. Their woven detailing is mirrored in the coffee table that incorporates a woven design at the base and a tongue-and-groove top. The glass sliders feature a custom cornice board covered in a tone-on-tone brushed chenille fabric bordered with a contrasting welt that serves to define its unique design.

Elegant French doors lead into the masculine study with its stunning coffered ceiling. Filled with light, the room boasts Palladian windows and walnut stained cabinetry. With an eye to providing comfort, Vickery replaced the sofa one would typically find in such a room with a upholstered recliner. The executive desk boasts a serpentine shape and a bookcase front. Below a wall of framed architectural artwork, the credenza features alligator skin details at its top and as inserts in the moulding. A unique tooled leather wall hanging is placed on the wall beside the recliner and puts the finishing touch on this inviting room.

The spacious kitchen has been designed to provide convenience, while the glazed fruit wood cabinets and chiseled stone floor give the space a rich feel. The large center island features a stainless steel range hood, with the stainless steel also appearing at the faucets and the cabinet hardware. The raised eating bar seats five on swivel chairs covered in dark brown leather. The decorative ceiling features tongue-and-groove details, while Roman-fold matchstick blinds appear at the windows. The kitchen features every amenity a cook might want, including a pantry cabinet.

With many of the elegant architectural details found in the living room, the feeling carried over to the master bedroom - a luxurious private retreat. Both the architectural niche on the bed wall and the barrel vaulted ceiling feature a faux finish that reflects the latte and raspberry colors used throughout the room. The regal custom upholstered headboard features a bronze metal frame, while Vickery managed to incorporate seating that would appeal to both masculine and feminine tastes - a chaise lounge for the lady and a matching chair and ottoman for the gentleman. Both have been covered in an ivory fabric with dots of raspberry. Silk window treatments have been given a unique swag design and complete the elegant theme of the room.

Custom artwork was again used in the guest bedroom to gather and reflect the colors used throughout the space. Here, an oil painting with a floral theme has been custom matted and framed for that purpose. The bed features a traditional dark wood headboard with metal detailing and the bed has been given a tufted coverlet and corresponding chocolate bed skirt. The distressed armoire and nightstands, with their shaped edges and front moulding details, all served to impart an Old World feel to the space. The custom cornice board at the windows is covered in a chocolate fabric complemented by a raspberry welt and tassels. The chair in front of the windows is covered in the same chocolate fabric that appears at the cornice board. Once again, recessed and rope lighting have been used in this room in order to give the space its personal ambiance.

The outdoor entertainment area measures a generous 1,341 square feet and includes both seating and dining areas, as well as a full kitchen and step-down bar. The chiseled stone floors on the lanai compliment the pavers used on the pool deck, while the pool itself features an arched bump out at the raised spa and lush landscaping that has been incorporated into the pool design.

With its architectural detail, generous appointments and elegant interiors, the Corsica offers its future homeowners a stunning home in which to both entertain and live a luxury lifestyle.
