A Tradition Of Excellence

McGarvey Custom Homes continues their tradition of excellence with the unveiling of their Villa Roma model home in the Marcello neighborhood at Mediterra. The three-bedroom home, offering 4,347 square feet under air and a total of 5,755 square feet of living area, stands on the ninth fairway of Mediterra’s Tom Fazio-designed North Course. The Villa Roma is one of a dozen new floor plans McGarvey Custom Homes has recently presented as part of their Executive Home line.

According to John Whitman, vice president of design for the company, “Our executive homes will include all of the features our larger homes offer. The homes will comprise less square footage and are designed to fit on the smaller lots in some of the newer neighborhoods.”

The Villa Rosa’s Mediterranean influences become evident as the home is approached from the brick paver drive. The impressive stone block entry tower with its iron balustrade is set atop a portico floored with chisel-edged travertine marble. The custom mahogany double entry doors are overlaid with decorative iron appointments, while the windows boast cast stone surrounds.

The interior of the home is designed to form a seamless blend between the indoor and outdoor living spaces that have been achieved through the generous and creative use of glass in the forms of soaring windows, French doors, and zero-corner pocketing doors.

This effect becomes evident as you enter the rotunda, which offers views through an oversized picture window to the pool and golf course beyond. Iron and wood sconces, that hold glorious floral bouquets, are set into faux finished walls. The floors here, as throughout the home, are tumbled marble with chiseled-edge travertine. A double tray ceiling is faux finished and accented with two steps finished with crown moulding. From the rotunda, arches open to the dining room, wet bar, study and master bedroom suite.

The dining room is imbued with romantic atmosphere thanks to recessed lighting that highlights the decorative, carved wooden wall plaques and built-in niche. The walls have been faux finished and further embellished with stenciling near the ceiling. The tray ceiling is ornamented with crown moulding and the large windows offer views of the front garden. The handsome, polished wood dining table has an inlaid top and the dining chairs are covered in rich tapestry fabric.

The outdoors melds with the interior of the home in the family room, where zero-corner sliding doors open onto the covered lanai and a complete summer kitchen. The intricate coffered ceiling displays ceiling beams, crown moulding and a faux finish. A built-in cabinet holds the television and offers extra storage. The sofa is upholstered in chenille silk and accented by silk and silk damask pillows, while the pair of overstuffed chairs are covered in a jacquard weave, incorporating the caramel and cognac hues used elsewhere in the room. An elegant iron and glass coffee table sits atop a silk and wool Tibetan style area rug.

In the first of two guest bedrooms, the headboard, side table and armoire are carved from ebonized wood and feature gold and brass accent trim. The pair of spacious windows flanking the bed are draped with a rich fabric in an embroidered floral print and subtle gold dots.

The second guest room is the cabana bedroom. The antiqued iron bed is covered in silk, displaying the room’s signature colors of abalone and soft corals. The painted nightstands are ornamented with touches of hand-painted 4 decoration on the drawers and are topped with stained wood. The tray ceiling displays a faux finish and the treatments that top a trio of windows are silk panels. The addition of recessed lighting once again provides an intimate ambiance.

Double doors open into the richly decorated master suite that perfectly blends both masculine and feminine touches. The elegant appointments in the master bedroom begin with the double step tray ceiling that has been faux finished and complements the linen cream of the walls. The dramatic windows and French doors leading to a private, covered patio all boast treatments combining gold, silk side panels topped with embroidered silk swags in gold and black that hang from antique gold rosettes. The headboard of the wooden sleigh bed is inset with rich leather and the flanking nightstands are dark wood accented with gold leaf ormolu. The corresponding ornately carved armoire is crafted from ebonized wood and has been given a gold leaf trim. The luxurious silk bedding is adorned with embroidered silk accent pillows. In the sitting area, two high back lounge chairs are covered in gold silk damask and the occasional table has a dramatic black granite top.

In the master bath, the his-and-hers raised panel vanity cabinets are stained and glazed maple, while the counter tops are a rich brown Emperador marble. The cabinet handles and faucets are all fashioned from oil-rubbed bronze. Graceful arches appear at the vanity mirrors and the surround for the dramatic jetted soaking tub, which also features a garden window. The walls are papered in a harlequin pattern over a faux stone background. Polished Crema Marfil marble covers the floor and the space also offers a large walk-in shower complete with showerhead, three body sprays and a hand shower. Additional lighting is supplied by the delicately-carved sconces above the sinks.

Rich appointments and attention to detail continue on in the study, where double French doors open to reveal Caribbean rosewood floors. The walls of the study have been faux finished to emulate saddle colored leather and the box coffered ceiling features wood stained crown moulding. Built-in bookshelves with cabinets below stand behind the mahogany writing desk with its leather inset top. Two chairs sit in front of the desk and are upholstered in a gold and caramel fabric with an acanthus pattern. The window treatments at the large arch topped casement windows are done in the same fabric and feature elegant swags over linear striped silk side panels.

Since the kitchen is the hub of family life, McGarvey Custom Homes has kept the scale of the kitchens in their executive homes very close in size to their larger models. Not only is the Villa Roma kitchen spacious, but it’s also equipped with state-of-the-art SubZero and Wolf appliances, including a 42-inch SubZero side-by-side refrigerator, a 30-inch Wolf double wall oven, microwave, dishwasher, gas cook top and available refrigerator drawer option in the center island. The island further boasts a custom stainless hood above that has been set into a stained tongue-and-groove cypress ceiling recess. The stained maple cabinets are topped by black and green Uba Tuba granite counters. The raised breakfast bar is flanked by carved wood bar stools with leather seats, while the generous transom windows allow the space to fill with light.

The adjacent breakfast nook is distinguished by a large, butt glass window offering views of the pool and the space is crowned by a round double tray ceiling, with the circular pattern repeated by the border in the tumbled marble floor. A round distressed wood table is flanked by four high back, wooden chairs, covered in creamy upholstery, and the iron chandelier above exudes understated elegance. From the breakfast nook it is possible to see through the family room, where the doors have been opened to allow the indoor and outdoor living spaces to meld into one.

At the rear of the home are the covered lanai, spa and pool. The space features two separate water features - a fountain that spills water into a basin before it’s directed into the pool and a tiled water wall, where the water cascades into a basin. Between the two, the soothing sound of moving water can be heard from any point in the outdoor area. The pool deck is comprised of pavers laid in a cobblestone pattern and the rectangular pool features a raised spa and has been finished with cantilevered coping.

The Villa Roma stands as testament to McGarvey Custom Homes standard of excellence, while offering all of the richly designed details that truly make a house a home.
