Relaxed & Rustic

The Jacaranda V model at Riviera Dunes, an Arthur Rutenberg Home built by M. Pete McNabb, Inc., is rich in Mediterranean details that include an impressive covered entry portico and a two-story tower element. Located on the Manatee River, the interior of the Jacaranda V is just as detailed as the exterior and features such unusual elements as rustic ashlar cut stone floors, an elevator, a two-story wine cellar, Juliette balconies and intricate wood ceiling details. With 5,596 square feet of living space and two bedrooms downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs, the home offers endless flexibility.

Arthur Rutenberg Homes designer Kathy Lohmeyer knew that the homes’ riverfront location would influence its’ interiors.

“When contemplating the potential homeowners, I understood that if they were going to buy in Riviera Dunes that they’d obviously have an interest in boating and being on the water. I imagined that they’d appreciate the finer things, but would also want an element of barefoot elegance; an interior that would keep comfort in mind and allow them to kick their shoes off.”

Rustic, relaxed and elegant, the interior of the Jacaranda V is impressive. In the columned foyer you are presented with an impressive two-story tall wall of windows and a sweeping view of the patio, lanai and pool area. The iron of the staircase banisters sets the tone for the iron elements throughout the home. Above, a second floor Juliette balcony with a wrought iron belly rail overlooks the foyer.

Further unique architectural elements appear in the living room where the walls are painted a warm Eastlake gold. Here, a second floor Juliette balcony is located off the bonus room and adds visual interest to the space. The living room offers an impressive pre-cast stone fireplace and seating is provided via a sofa upholstered in a beige herringbone chenille fabric accented by pillows in both a woven textured fabric and a paisley pattern. The unique oval walnut veneer coffee table offers twelve drawers and separates the sofa from the two chairs with carved wood frames custom painted in a light butterscotch crackle finish. The chair seats are upholstered in a two-toned blue woven textured fabric. The pattern on the Oriental area rug incorporates shades of gold, jade, tan and rust. Two floor lamps hand painted in a dark espresso brown with gold highlights stand behind the chairs and before the stunning wall of two-story aquarium windows. Each slightly bowed glass pane measures 8 feet high by 2 feet wide and together they allow an unsurpassed view of the Manatee River. The windows are draped with a ginger flocked damask tone-on-tone fabric with tassel tie backs, while the top treatment is a swag fashioned from the same paisley fabric used on the sofa accent pillows. The massive scale of the room allows for an antiqued wrought iron chandelier measuring 50” in diameter, which features gold leaf accents and twenty lights.

In the gourmet kitchen, the cherry raised panel cabinets have been given a black glaze, while the center island cabinetry has a nut brown glaze. The countertops are rich Uba Tuba granite. Further decorative elements include a pre-cast limestone range hood embellished with stone brackets and the faux finished bump out detail above the range hood and cabinets which incorporates a pair of decorative windows with wrought iron grille inserts. A porcelain tile backsplash in gold and bronze tones, stainless steel appliances, and a lighted pot rack are further elements that insure that the kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful.

The nearby leisure room is the perfect spot in which to relax, as reflected by the choice of seating in the room which includes a comfortable leather sectional sofa and a recliner covered in striped fabric in blue, terra cotta and butterscotch, which also appear in the Kilim area rug. The built-in entertainment center has been given custom-aged blue glaze and features decorative inset iron detail work above the television cabinet. Flanking the entertainment center is a pair of windows with window seats covered in a turquoise linen fabric that also appears on the drapery side panels. These are topped by a cornice upholstered in a woven textured fabric. The coffee table has an antique blue finish on the wood elements; the top is upholstered in the same woven fabric that appears on the cornices, and cleverly features two removable wooden trays that can be used as serving trays.

In the dining room, a large dark walnut distressed plank table sits on a trestle base. The host and hostess chairs are covered in the same paisley fabric that was used in the living room, while the four side chairs are covered in cognac leather embellished with nail head trim. A serpentine buffet boasts a terra cotta limestone top with rustic chiseled edges and sits in a decorative wall recess surrounded by white casing moulding. A wooden grid of squares has been hung in a diagonal pattern on the back wall of the niche and also features beveled mirror inserts. Decorative stained wooden corbels lend further visual appeal. At the tall window, side panels of turquoise textured silk are topped with a swag detail in a two-toned mini plaid that pulls its colors from the fabric on the host-and-hostess chairs. The twelve light iron and brass chandelier features silk shades, while two large wall torchieres, 12’ wide by 60” tall, feature European iron work finish and heavy glass shades with scallop detail.

The foyer leading to the vestibule of the master bedroom suite boasts an arched ceiling which has been painted a crackle finish incorporating a metallic gold under paint and paint in a soft Calico blue. The rich color combination continues in the master bedroom and lends and air of sophistication to the space. On the wall behind the bed hangs a unique grille work in antique bronze tones with a Mediterranean flavor framed by a stone surround. The duvet and shams are covered in a gold tone-on-tone damask chenille and are joined by accent pillows in turquoise silk that feature floral embroidery work. In the seating area, a chair and chaise lounge are covered in textured chenille, while the nearby tabletop with scalloped edges is faux painted in high gloss silver and gold to resemble marble. At the windows, faux silk fabric in a tone-on-tone aquamarine stripe form the side panels, while the padded cornice is done in a corn silk fabric with a whelp cord hem. The distinctive armoire features shelves on its side panels that were used to display photos and decorative accessories.

The use of various stone applications gives the master bath a luxurious feel. The floor is covered in a combination of polished and honed marble in a desert bone color, while the tub deck, vanity counter tops and built-in shower seats are topped with a rich honey onyx. At the back of the tub, a glass panel allows views into the walk-through shower and is surrounded by a beveled wall insert detail that incorporate blue green tumbled marble mosaic tiles. The cabinetry is natural cherry with a black glaze and appears as well on the tub surround. The large walk-in shower with double entrance boasts a custom mosaic floor medallion and a decorative dome in the ceiling. The four elegant golden bronze wall sconces feature shades of amber glass and cast a lovely light over the entire space, reflecting the varied shades of the stone and tile work.

The second floor of the Jacaranda V offers two further guest rooms, a large balcony and a combination bonus and media room whose walls are papered with a border in an antelope pattern and that features blue and russet shades. The walls themselves are painted a rich gold. The focal point of the bonus room is a Proline billiard table in provincial maple with mahogany stain, brick felt and leather pockets. The room also contains a wet bar and two 23” LCD televisions. Above the pool table, the custom chandelier is done in an antiqued agate and boasts a pair of decorative gazelles, along with crystal teardrop embellishments and matching shades. A step down brings you to the media room, where a companion wallpaper to the border in the bonus room was used in the recessed ceiling. Here, seating is provided via an L-shaped sectional sofa covered in a blue chambray tone-on-tone fabric. A half wall behind the couch separates the media room from the bonus room. Behind this half wall are three game chairs upholstered in squash and chestnut leathers. Dark wood shutters appear at the windows, which also feature valences in a patterned print from Osborne and Little with a deep sienna background and shades of blues, gold and terracotta. The side panels are a sienna colored textured linen. A 50” plasma television holds pride of place on the wall, completing the requirements for this comfortable room.

The Jacaranda V can safely call itself unique. With rare architectural details, rich interior appointments and enviable location on the Manatee River, the Jacaranda V is, indeed, both an elegant residence, as well as a place where one can kick their shoes off. This is waterfront living at its best.
